One of the greatest advantages of acupuncture is both drug-free and without serious side effects. The needles generally cause no bleeding upon entry or removal. Most importantly, for safety and hygienic reasons, we only use disposable needles. There is minimal risk of organ or blood penetration. As always the patient is responsible for informing their health care provider about any and all pre-existing conditions. Acupuncturists receive extensive training and are licensed under strict state regulatory boards. Many acupuncturists have worked closely with medical doctors who have found that the combination of treatments is beneficial for the patient. Most patients find the treatment very relaxing; some actually sleep during treatment. They experience a feeling of well-being, are surprised at how comfortable they are during treatment and how easily the needles are inserted into place. A patient may feel a slight sensation upon the needle’s entry, then slight pressure or a “dull” or “surging” reaction as the needle reaches the “chi” at the point after treatment, many patients experience euphoria and profound peace. The very thing and tiny needles are specifically designed to be virtually painless and are far different from the hypodermic needles used for injections. In some instances, a patient may experience slight soreness right after the treatment because the condition is in a very acute stage and the treatment is working against it. The soreness is temporary and will subside as the body accepts the treatment and succeeds in healing itself. Home
